The hot topic recently on the news seems to be the topic of the Canadian government accepting Syrian refugees to Canada. The Canadian government has accepted to bring 10,000 refugees to Canada as stated in a recent article on November 26, 2015 on www.CBC.ca. There has been many talks about stopping refugees from coming to Canada after the recent Paris terror attacks. There is fear among some people that by allowing refugees enter Canada, will put Canada at a higher risk for terrorists attacks. Whether we bring refugees to Canada or not, there is always a risk that Canada can be attacked. I believe it is our countries duty and responsibility to support other citizens. There are many families who are in a state of desperation to leave their home due to violence and who long for a more stable and peaceful life. Many are innocent people in a position of desperation fighting for their lives. I don't believe it is fair for the government to decline the plea of desperate families. I think that security measures will tighten and even though this may not prevent any attack of terror towards Canada, I still believe we all have a responsibility to lend a helping hand to others. Just because many refugees are Muslim does not mean that they are at risk of being violent.
Imagine you and your children were in a position of poverty and that your life was at risk each and every day and your only wish is to land somewhere that safe and stable for your family. What would you say to the Canadian or American government? What would your plea to the government be? I feel that all countries right now are at risk of a possible terror attack. There is so much darkness in the world right now that I don't feel preventing refugees from coming will put the country at a higher risk. I actually feel that not allowing them to come to Canada may create more separation, hatred and division between countries and people of different Religions, cultures and races. We need to offer a helping hand to our fellow migrants. We need to spread more peace and compassion so we can all unite.
It is time to come together right now. The world needs more peace not less peace. The more we point the finger at others and close our hearts, the more the world will be in complete chaos. The more peace we give to others and open our hearts, the more we can unite and eradicate hate in the world. Spiritual teacher, Matt Kahn teaches that each person has an innocent heart that desperately wants to be loved. He says that each person deserves "more love, not less." So in this time of darkness, let us remember to try to open our minds and hearts to the people we normally would judge and critize because everyone does deserve more love, not less and the world needs more peace, not less.
